Your network is vital for your business. Every downtime costs money. So if something goes down you want to know it ASAP and if possible you want it to recover automaticly. Well Servers Alive can help you do this. Servers Alive can monitor some basic TCP/IP protocols like SMTP, POP3, NNTP, FTP or HTTP. It can also monitor some more complicated TCP/IP protocols like Radius and Quake II (Game server). But since not all services you want to monitor are these 'common' winsock based services, Servers Alive allows you to do much more then that. A little list of what else Servers Alive can monitor : - ICMP protocol (ping) - NT service (even on a remote machine from another domain and this without trusts) - Check if enough disk space is available - retrieve a webpage (URL) and check if it contains a certain word (or phrase) and this for both HTTP (normal) and HTTPS (secure) (and this via a proxy server if needed) - connect to a Microsoft SQL server and check the availability of a certain database (tested with SQL 4.2, 6.0,6.5 and 7.0) If something fails, Servers Alive can take some actions : - (re)start an NT service - reboot an NT machine - execute a command (BAT file or EXE file) It can alert you via : - SMTP mail (email) - oter mail (using a command line mailer) - sound - pager (numeric, alphanumeric or SMS messaging (TAP or UCP protocol)) You can view the current status of your hosts via : - Telnet session to Servers Alive (it has a build-in telnet server) - HTTP session to Serves Alive (it has a build-in web server) - saved HTML page (that you publish with YOUR web server) - logging to a SYSLog (unix) host And of course all that Servers Alive does can be logged into a text based logfile.
